Critiquing Photo Challenge
Project by Lindsay Yeager
Descriptive: This photograph of a watch from Bulova.com is descriptive because its purpose is to show people what it looks like so that they will purchase it.
Explanatory: Eadweard Muybridge's photograph is explanatory because it proves that when a horse gallops, there is a point where all 4 legs leave the ground at the same time.
Theoretical: My photograph is theoretical because it incorporates a model as a prop and allows the viewer to come to their own conclusion about the meaning of the image.
Aesthetically Evaluative: My photograph is aesthetically evaluative because it shows the beauty of the landscape on one of the galapagos islands.
Ethically Evaluative: Tracey Derrick's photograph is ethically evaluative because it documents her battle with breast cancer in hopes of sharing a deeper knowledge of the disease with a global audience.
Theoretical: My photograph is theoretical because the use of a double exposure on my Holga camera makes a commentary about the creation of art.

Multimodal Presentation
Project by Ashley Jones
Synopsis of Multimodal Presentation
For my presentation, I have chosen to interpret the work of Jim Richardson. He is a main contributor for National Geographic, and much of his works consist of aesthetically evaluative photographs of nature. Richardson has photographed in a variety of places, but focuses on small town America as well as the simple beauty of Scotland and the United Kingdom. One characteristic of his nature shots is that they seem almost unbelievable. He captures the beauty of nature such that it looks like a painting and shows the calm side of the world. The images I have chosen to review show the range of his work; from inspiring landscapes in Scotland to high school students at a school dance.
My New Perception of Photography
Jim Richardson’s work helped to show me the beautiful side of nature photography. This has been an area that I’ve been very interested in, and it was wonderful to see how a professional captures the world around us. His work also changed my perception by showing the wide range of photographers. Until I had taken this class, I had thought that photographers had one area of expertise, such as portraits or landscapes. Richardson, however, has shown me that a photographer can really photograph anything. He captures the beauty of nature and the somberness of a scene in small town America. It really showed me that the range of a photographer is endless.
